7 shortlisted for position of Judiciary’s Chief Registrar

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted seven candidates for the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

In a statement on Friday, February 16, 2024, JSC revealed that it had received 43 applications from Kenyans seeking to replace Anne Amadi.

Amadi left the role on November 24, 2023, after serving in the position for 10 years.

“Following the advertisement of the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, the Commission received a total of forty-three applications. Having reviewed the applications for completeness and conformity with the constitutional and statutory requirements set out in the advertisement Ref. V/No. 30/2023 of 23a October 2023, the Commission shortlisted a total of seven candidates,” JSC stated.

The interviews for shortlisted candidates will be conducted by JSC on March 18, 2024, between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.

Those shortlisted include Macharia Rose Wachuka, Ouma Jack Busalile Mwimali, Mokaya Frida Boyani, Wambeti Anne Ireri, Ndemo Paul Maina, Kendagor Caroline Jepyegen and Kandet Kennedy Lenkamai.

“Members of the public are invited to avail in writing any information of interest in respect to any of the shortlisted candidates. Please note that the Commission may interview any member of the public who has submitted information on any of the shortlisted candidates and such information shall be kept confidential,” JSC added.

Current Registrar

The position is currently held by Judiciary‘s Deputy Chief Registrar Paul Ndemo who is among the shortlisted candidates for the position.

Ndemo has served as the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for the last five years.

“Paul Ndemo has been appointed by the Judicial Service Commission as the acting chief registrar of the Judiciary. Ndemo has served as the deputy chief registrar of the Judiciary for 5 years,” the Judiciary stated in January.

The Chief Registrar is tasked with preparing estimates of expenditure, administering the Judiciary Fund, being the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission; National Council for Administration of Justice, being responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations and administration of Human Resources in the Judicial Service and being in charge of support services in the Judiciary and in particular, planning, development and organization of staff.

He/she also monitors and enhances administration and office procedures, plans, prepares, implements and monitors the budget and collects, receives and accounts for revenue, prepares reports and proposals on administration issues and stays in charge of the procurement of all stores, management and maintenance of all physical facilities.
