KNEC has allocated 2 hours and 15 minutes for Social studies and Religious Education.

The 2023 KCPE examinations will mark the end of the 8-4-4 system in primary schools.

KCPE is being replaced by Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

Candidates have been sitting for KCPE since 1985 when it was introduced to replace the CPE examinations under the 7-4-2-3 curriculum.

The 8-4-4 system was introduced in 1985 to replace the 7-4-2-3 curriculum, which consisted of seven years of primary school (classes 1–7), four years of lower secondary school (form 1–4), two years of upper secondary school (form 5–6) and three years of higher education.

KCPE and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), which are under the 8-4-4 system, are now being replaced by the Competency Based Curriculum, popularly known as CBC.
