Inspector General of police Japhet Koome has addressed the nation ahead of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition countrywide protests scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays.

Speaking on Sunday, March 26, 2023, Koome noted that tomorrow, Monday, 27, 2023, will be business as usual and urged Kenyans to go to work and continue with their normal routine duties.

He also assured Kenyans of maximum safety and security as they go about their activities.

Kila mtu ile kazi hufanya kama ni kuenda shambani, kuenda ofisini, kuenda kwa duka lake, soko ama jambo lolote ambalo ndilo tegemeo lake wakenya wote waende kazi kesho. Sisi ni kuhakkishia nchi yetu ni tulivu na salama,” he stated.

This loosely translates to: “Kenyans should go to work tomorrow. We as security officers will ensure there is peace in the country.”

Mass protests

Azimio supremo Raila Odinga had announced that there would be a continuation of opposition protests due to public demand.

At the time, he claimed that the previous demos held in Nairobi and several parts of the country on Monday, 20, 2023 were successful.

“Fellow Kenyans, in the second phase of our protest, and in response to public demand, we shall now hold the protests every Monday and Thursday beginning next week,” Raila told journalists at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Nairobi on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
