Newly sworn-in High Court judges have been urged to ensure that a matter does not stay in the court system for more than three years.
Addressing the judges on Monday, May 27, 2024, after being inducted by the Kenya Judiciary Academy (KJA), High Court Principal Judge Eric Ogola said his vision is not based on the reduction of backlog, but rather a completion of backlog.
Real-time justice
He said as the High Court Principal Judge, he aims to see justice being delivered in real-time.
“My vision as Principal Judge is not “reduction of backlog” but “completion of backlog”. It is my vision that justice will be delivered real-time in the High Court and a matter will not stay in our court system for more than 3 years,” Ogola said.

A total of 20 judges were inducted this morning.
New High Court judges
The judges include Moses Ado Otieno, Alice Chepngetich Bett Soi, Benjamin Mwikya Musyoka, John Lolwatan Tamar, Francis Weche Andayi, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, Julius Kipkosgei Ng’arng’ar, Wendy Kagendo Micheni, Emily Onyando Ominde and Helene Rafaela Namisi.
Others are are Alexander Muasya Mutetiand, Julius Mukut Nangea, Benjamin Kimani Njoroge, Caroline Jepyegen Kendagor, Stephen Nzisi Mbungi, Linus Poghon Kassan, Noel Onditi Adagi Inziani, Tabitha Ouya Wanyama, Rhoda Cherotich Ruto and Joe Omido Mkutu.
Ogola further told the judges that they should strive to deliver justice for all as the High Court’s core values are professionalism, integrity, diligence, transparency and accountability.
“Our pursuit as a court is to administer justice in a fair, accessible and responsive manner by promoting the rule of law and enhancing jurisprudence even as we strive to be a model court in dispute resolution and protection of liberties. In the High Court, we deliver justice for all. Our core values are professionalism, integrity, diligence, transparency and accountability, respect for all and each other, courage in our decision making and fairness,” Ogola said.
The appointments of the new judges were announced in a Gazette notice dated May 9, 2024, after a vetting process by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
