Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku has called for the firing of all advisors to Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.

As Geoffrey pointed out, the advisors to Governor Nassir did not emphasize the real issue and could be considered unreliable.

“Please the advisors of the Governor from the coast region, they need to be fired, all of them. Because they are lazy, they are not advising the governor properly, they need to be fired,” Geoffrey added.

Muguka ban

According to him, hard drugs are the biggest problem on the coast, not muguka as Nassir suggested. Muguka, he said, can only pose a problem when mixed with other substances, such as alcohol.

“The leaders from the coast should focus on the root cause and the real issue. The real problem is heroin, cocaine, and other hard drugs. That is the real problem,” Geoffrey said.

Geoffrey advised Governor Nassir to to borrow a leaf from what Mt. Kenyan region did when dealing with the intake of illicit brew in the region.

“We should be seeing the governor requesting the police and government agencies to arrest all the drug barons. This is what in Mt. Kenya we have done for people consuming illicit brews, It was a serious problem like Drugs is in Mombasa,” the MP said.

As the Mbeere MP explains, muguka is not a drug but a stimulant, which is a substance they have always consumed and has never caused the effects the coastal people are claiming.

“Muguka is not a drug but a stimulant just like coffee and tea, the problem they are describing, is we do not have it in our region, yet we grow the product,” Ruku added.

According to the Mbeere MP, leaders from his region meet President Ruto on Monday, May 28, 2024, with the intention of finding out whether the government had approved changes to the Miraa Regulations 2013 and Crops Act, 2013.

The meeting brought together Embu governor Cecily Mbarire, all elected MPs and MCAs from the county.

“No one has powers to against the already existing laws. The executive order on Muguka is null and void because muguka is a scheduled crop, that is well enshrined and protected,” Ruku added.
