Homa Bay: Form 3 student perishes in road accident

Two people including a form three student on Monday, September 5 night perished in a grisly road accident along Nyawita-Oyugis road, in Rachuonyo Sub County, Homa Bay County.

This follows a head collision between two motorcycles which had three occupants.

Area Sub-county Police Commander Lilies Wachira confirmed the incident saying the two who lost their lives were taken to the Rachuonyo Sub County morgue.

The survivor was taken to a nearby hospital where he is receiving medication.

“On Monday night, an accident occurred along Nyawita-Oyugis road involving two motorbikes and two of the occupants died on the spot,” Wachira said.

The third victim who sustained serious injuries was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is admitted.

The commander however said they could not immediately ascertain the main cause of the accident as the investigations are still ongoing.

“At the moment we can not ascertain actually what might have caused the accident as the investigations are still on,” he said.

He at the same time said he could not actually confirm whether the student was the rider since the accident occurred at night.

The Officer however warned the motorbike riders against speeding on busy roads saying this has caused a number of deaths along the route.

He also warned motorbike owners against giving their rides to school-going children who lack training.

He also urged the riders to observe traffic rules while in their businesses to avoid more accidents and loss of life.

“Speeding and lack of training among the motocycle operators has been the major cause of accidents and deaths in this region.

“Let the motorcycle riders ensure that they go for proper pieces of training before hitting the road and avoid giving them out to school-going children or untrained individuals,” he added.

A number of untrained school-going children have since joined the sector which many youths take as their source of income.

 Bodies were moved to Rachuonyo hospital morgue.
