Kipkoech Chepkwony, 54, who is the key suspect in the murder of his 31-year-old son, will remain in police custody for two weeks after a court granted the prosecution’s request to hold him.
Kabarnet law Court granted the order following a miscellaneous application by Investigation Officer Stephen Sitati to hold Kipkoech Chepkwony to enable them complete investigations into the murder.
Sitati had requested more time to allow him to complete the investigation, record witnesses’ statements, conduct a mental assessment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on the suspect and get a complete postmortem report.
“Application granted, the suspect to be reminded at Kabarnet police station for 14 days, the suspect to come in on 16,” Judith Wanjala, Senior Principal Magistrate noted.
The suspect was arrested by the police officers at his home Kabasis village at around midnight after the horrific incident.
The victim’s throat was hacked three times.
