A suspected thief is receiving treatment at Matuu Level Four Hospital, after breaking his two legs when he jumped from the second floor of a building after being caught allegedly stealing.

The man is said to have been found stealing clothes from a clothesline on Thursday night and jumped from the second floor trying to escape after he was found, breaking his two legs instantly.

Confirming the incident, Matuu area Chief Susan King’oo has said that the man who is a lorry driver is in critical condition.

“The man who is a lorry driver is said to have been found stealing clothes last night as per my village manager Musili and he jumped breaking his legs badly,” Susan said.

According to the chief, the lorry driver is said to have left his lorry along Thika Road before coming to the said building.

He was rushed to Matuu Level 4 Hospital by police officers who were called after the incident took place.

Machakos County residents have been experiencing burglary in different areas raising alarm on the increased insecurity for the last few days.

On Wednesday, thieves broke into St Mary’s Catholic Church in Tala, Machakos County and stole a laptop.

Confirming the incident, Tala area Chief Francis Mulinge noted that the thieves also broke into the secretary’s office which is next to the Father’s office.

“The thieves broke into the secretaries and Father’s office between 2 am and 3 am and made away with Father’s laptop,” Mulinge said

The thieves attacked and injured the watchman who was guarding the church premises before they tied him up with ropes.

However, the watchman was rescued by police officers who rushed him to Kangundo Level Four Hospital but was later transferred to Machako’s level five hospital to receive further treatment.

“We reached out to the OCS who send his officers quickly and rescued the watchman. They took him to Kangundo hospital but he was later transferred to Machakos level five for further treatment,” the chief added.

The chief suspected that the thieves who raided the Catholic Church were the same ones who stole from Kyamulendu Secondary School.

Mulinge urged area residents to be on the lookout for suspicious characters, especially outsiders living within the locality.

“I am urging my area residents to report any person they suspect either living with them in the same plots or in the area, do not keep quiet with such information,” the chief said.
