President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto has called on the youth to create opportunities for themselves in the face of joblessness.
Speaking to a local TV station, Charlene urged the youth not to sit down and be lazy, telling them to begin initiatives which can help them earn a livelihood.
“The best thing we can do for our young people is create opportunities for them. I’d like to call on our young people, let’s not sit and be lazy. You are passionate about something, don’t give up on that. Reach out to us, give us your idea. Tell us this is what I want to do. I give a listening ear to somebody who has already started something and I can see where they are going and I can easily put something in other than somebody who is like give me a job. Which job? Where am I going to get the job from?” she stated.
Charlene also called on the youth to attend international platforms and conversations such as those on climate change, in a bid to fight for their space.
“We need young people to start and continue attending these international platforms because the more we are the more we can fight for our space and the more we can fight for our rural youth because those are the ones who are most affected,” she added.
Charlene is the founder and patron of the Smachs Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Kenyan youth through sustainable agriculture and climate action.
Charlene appointed blood ambassador
Charlene was recently appointed as the new Kenya blood ambassador by Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha Wafula.
“The Ministry of Health recognizes and appreciates your selfless contribution to Kenya through your consistent blood donation, advocacy and educating and mobilizing others to engage in blood donation. Special recognition is on your efforts to mobilize resources that support blood donation activities and blood establishments,” Nakhumicha said in the appointment letter.
“This letter is to appoint you as a and ask that you continue to be the spokesperson to your friends, Kenyan Youth Family, peers and Kenyan citizens and to engage and encourage people to give blood to save lives. From time to time, collaborate with the Kenya Tissue and Transport Authority or partners in blood-related events.”
Charlene will be working closely with the local blood services team to help coordinate blood drives and raise awareness on the same.
