One more person has succumbed to injuries sustained during the gas explosion that rocked Mradi area in Embakasi, bringing the death toll to seven people.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 6, the Government Spokesperson extended his condolences to the families affected.
“The number of people who have died from the Embakasi Gas Explosion has risen to 7 Kenyans. The Government sends its most sincere condolences to the families of the departed,” Mwaura expressed.
Mwaura also urged Kenyans to report any illegal gas filling stations to the dedicated hotline at 020 3313004
He noted that this measure is crucial in preventing similar tragedies in the future.
“The list shall be used to ensure that action is taken to avoid any similar tragedy in the future,” underscored Mwaura.

Suspects of Embakasi gas explosion
Following the gas explosion incident, the police earlier launched a manhunt seeking information to apprehend five suspects connected to the illegal LPG gas refilling point.
The explosion caused significant damage to nearby buildings and vehicles.
The suspects include the site manager, two NEMA officials, and two drivers.
The DCI urged people to report any information about their whereabouts. Several individuals, including the site owner and three NEMA officials, have already been arrested.
NEMA also asked four officials to step aside as investigations into the licensing of the illegal plant continue.
“After a thorough assessment of the licensing procedure and processes the Board of Management has noted with great concern some serious gaps in the issuance of the license to the LPG plant in question,” Nema board chairperson Emilio Mugo said.
“The board therefore directs that the implicated officers step aside immediately pending further investigations by the relevant government agencies.”
The move came after President William Ruto ordered the dismissal and prosecution of government officials involved in issuing licenses to such plants.
