Chief Justice Martha Koome has promised that the Judicial Service Commission is ready to process complaints against judicial officers implicated in corruption or any other acts of misconduct.
Koome spoke during a handover ceremony when outgoing Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi handed over to the acting Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Paul Ndemo.
“I reiterate the stance by the Judicial Service Commission that we are ready to process complaints against any Judge or Judicial Officer who is implicated in corruption or any other acts of misconduct. However, such complaints must be lodged and processed in the manner prescribed by the Constitution. The JSC will only act on the basis of evidence and not on blanket statements or allegations that have not been substantiated,” Koome stated.
Koome judicial officers to discharge their duties under the law and members of the public to respect and safeguard the independence of the judiciary.
Koome silent on Ruto claims
She however avoided responding to recent attacks against the judiciary by President William Ruto, who has been claiming that several judicial officials are corrupt.
“I urge judges, judicial officers and judiciary staff to discharge their duties in accordance with their oaths of office. The conduct of judicial duties shall be subject only to the Constitution and the law, and not the direction or control of any person or authority,” Koome stated.
“I implore Kenyans to remain vigilant to safeguard the hard-won gains of our Constitution including that of judicial independence and the rule of law. These are sacrosanct promises of our Constitution.”
