Bruno Shioso is among 12 police officers who have been shortlisted for interviews for the position of Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police.

30 police officers applied for the job after the position fell vacant following the retirement of Edward Mbugua.

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) met at Kenya School of Government on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, to come up with a list of shortlisted candidates ahead of the interviews slated for April 4, 2023.

The shortlisted candidates include; former police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, David Birech, Rono Bunei, Vincent Makokha, Jecinta Muthoni, Maurice Kipkoech, Douglas Kanja, Rosemary Kuraru, Abdalla Komesha, Judy Jebet, Nyale Munga and Tom Odera.

Qualifications

NPSC while advertising the vacancy demanded that candidates must be holders of a bachelor’s degree, must have served in the police service for at least 15 years and must be of the rank of Assistant Inspector General of police.

As the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police (DIG), the holder of the officer is the most powerful as he or she controls almost 70,000 personnel of the more than 100,000 officers under NPS.

The other personnel are in Administration Police Service and DCI.

The DIG is in charge of all eight regional police commanders, 47 county commanders, formation commanders, Sub County Commanders, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and all uniformed officers.

He/she also controls the General Service Unit, traffic department and Kenya Police College in Kiganjo.
