Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director-General Mohammed Badi has shared details of his experience working as the entity’s boss.
Speaking during the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program held at the High Commission of India Residential Complex in Nairobi on Saturday, September 17, 2022, Badi expressed that running the country’s capital was one of the hardest nuts he has had to crack in all the tasks he has ever performed.
He recognized that the job handed to him was political yet he was a military man.
“I have been running Nairobi County for the last two years. It has been a challenging job especially if you are a military man and you are given a political position. It was a hot seat since I was running the capital city of Kenya where services had been running down.
“It’s one of the most difficult tasks I have ever been given as compared to the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping Mission,” he stated.
Despite being difficult, Badi says he manoeuvred his way through and ensured he was up to the task and delivered his mandate.
He recalled that among the challenges he faced was fighting with politicians who thought they ‘own’ the city.
“From day one, you start fighting with politicians and those who think they ‘own’ the city and up to now the fight is over,” Badi said.
