Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is weighing in on the reports that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Mating’i’s residence was raided on Wednesday night.
While initial reports claim the former CS’s Karen home was raided by police officers, several statements by police bosses have been issued denying involvement.
At the same time, more speculations about the truth behind yesterday’s occurrences spur from a lack of photo or video evidence.
However, speaking on the matter, Babu Owino says he had advised Matiang’i to arrest former IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati presumably during the August 2022 general election.
According to the MP, had he (Matiang’i) headed to his advice, these new developments would not be happening.
“If Matiang’i would have heeded my advice/instructions of arresting Chebukati we would have not gone through these nonsensical games,” he tweeted.
Babu’s confession is a shared opinion among members of the opposition since, last month, Azimio leader Raila Odinga opined that Chebukati should be taken to the ICC.
Odinga was speaking in support of the IEBC probe stating that Kenyans need to know the truth about what happened at the Bomas during the announcement of the presidential results.
“Juzi ulisikia wakisema wabunge upande ule ati uchunguzi ufanyike kuhusu Bomas of Kenya…mimi nasema alham dulilahi…wamechukua wale commissioners 4 ati wanashtakiwa walifanya maovu,” he said.
Raila argued that the investigation should solely focus on Wafula Chebukati.
According to the Azimio leader, Chebukati should also be tried and charged at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague failure to which the 2027 general election will not be conducted.
“Mpaka tusafishe takataka ya Chebukati, yale amefanya ni crime against humanity anafaa apelekwe Hague ashatakiwe huko….kama haitafanyika hakutakuwa na haja Wakenya 2027 waende uchaguzi,” he opined.
