A section of the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leaders have called on the government to expedite investigations on the death of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla.
Addressing mourners during the funeral ceremony of General Ogolla held in Ng’iya, Siaya county on Sunday, April 21, 2024, the leaders led by Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, stated that Ogolla’s death was a security issue that should be investigated.
“When an accident occurs it’s a security issue, there are security concerns which deserve an answer for the nation and since an inquiry has already been formed, we look forward to a speedy investigation,” Karua said.
On his part, Siaya Governor James Orengo rubbished remarks that the departed General was involved in the stand-off witnessed at the Bomas of Kenya during the release of the general election results in 2022.
Orengo defended Ogolla saying he was apolitical and also urged the government to ensure his death is investigated to clear doubts on his unexpected demise.
“I just hope that this time around with the investigations which we are undergoing will come to the final conclusions and outcome of how this happened. The first rule in investigation is that you don’t rule anything out and we want to be assured that nothing is left out so that the truth comes out,” Orengo said.
“Let General Ogolla not be buried in doubt, and the lingering doubt is that the is this allegation that Ogolla went to Bomas to change the election, you can accuse me but Gen Ogolla the way I know him even on political issues if it is that wachana nayo,” he added.
Ogolla will be laid to rest per his will with three symbolic ceremonies.
The first ceremony will be the ‘reveille’ a military wake-up call that signals the beginning of a new day. It is played using a trumpet, drum, fife or bagpipes.
The second ceremony is the ‘last post’, a tune played to honour a soldier’s service. It signifies the end of the military duty.
Lastly, the General will be accorded a 19-gun salute which is meant to recognise his stint in the military.
