Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr Alfred Mutua is mourning the death of his barber of 24 years who collapsed and died on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at his workplace.

In a statement, Mutua said that the barber, Mr Francis Kinyua aka Mkirinyaga succumbed to high blood pressure.

“Sad day. Heartbroken: It’s with great sadness and shock that I’ve Just received news that my barber of 24 years, Mr Francis Kinyua aka Mkirinyaga, collapsed at his workplace yesterday and sadly he later passed away,” he stated.

Mutua revealed that he met Kinyua in 1999, and has stayed ‘faithful’ to him since then. He says the barber attended to him last Thursday, June 29, 2023.

“We met in the year 1999 at Kenyatta Market and he has been my barber ever since. I have followed him to many Barber shops to date. He is the only barber who has cut my hair in Kenya (including just last Thursday),” he added.

Over the years, the relationship between the two has transitioned from work to friendship, and at the height of it, family, as Mutua puts it.

“He was a man that I practically considered family. His blood pressure was found to be very high before his sad demise. He was 55 years old. Rest In Peace my dear friend,” he added.

Mutua’s promise

Mutua has promised to ensure that the children of the late Kinyua complete their studies

“I will ensure that your children duly complete their studies. My sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time of grief,” he added.
