Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has been unverified on Twitter.

The lawyer who enjoys over 2.1 million followers on the micro-blogging platform lost his blue checkmark on Sunday, May 21, 2023.

Twitter in April phased out legacy verification, removing blue checkmarks for non-paying accounts.

In place of the free verification for legacy accounts, the Elon Musk-owned company introduced Twitter Blue, a service that would see accounts pay for verification.

However, days later, the company restored the verification checkmarks for accounts with over one million followers, including Ahmednasir’s account.

It is not yet clear whether the senior lawyer violated any Twitter rules before his checkmark was removed since no public statement has been issued either from the company or the lawyer.

Twitter Blue is an opt-in, paid subscription that adds a blue checkmark to your account and offers early access to select features, like Edit Tweet.

The service comes with localized pricing starting at $8 (Ksh1100) per month or $84 (Ksh11,500) per year.

Before Musk took Twitter private, the check marks were limited to notable figures in government, media, or who were otherwise in the public eye and ran a heightened risk of impersonation.
