Three people died on the spot and several others were seriously injured in a grisly road accident along the Kenol-Sagana road on Friday evening.

The accident is said to have occurred at around 8.00 PM at a place called Ha-Muthike where a matatu heading towards Sagana collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.

According to the police report, the matatu driver is said to have tried to overtake a vehicle in front of him leading to the fatal crash.

Those who died are two minors and one adult.

The victims who sustained injuries were rushed to hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

In the past month, four accidents have been reported along the same route claiming a handful of lives.

About a week ago, three people perished after a personal vehicle they were travelling in rammed into a lorry at a notorious black spot known as Mlima-Swara.

Lack of road signage on the road which has been under construction for expansion has been attributed to be one of the leading causes of the accidents with calls to the drivers to ensure they observe traffic rules to avert such incidents.
