Two pedestrians died on Sunday, August 13, 2023, after they were run over by a speeding motor vehicle in Kapsabet town, Nandi County.

Nandi Central Police Commander David Anyir confirmed the incident, saying the car struck two bumps near Kapsabet County Referral Hospital before veering off the road and instantly hitting a man and a woman who were walking along the road.

“A speeding vehicle hit bumps between Kapsabet Police Station and Kapsabet County Referral Hospital. It lost control and rolled into the ditch before hitting two pedestrians who were walking in a different direction,” Anyir said.

The police boss said the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries and was rushed to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital for treatment.

“One pedestrian died on the spot while the other lost his life while receiving treatment at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital. The driver too sustained injuries,” the officer added.

The Toyota Vanguard which was being driven by a middle-aged woman had nine bales of polythene bags in it when it was thoroughly searched, along with several licence plates from other vehicles.

The woman was arrested and is being held at Kapsabet Police Station.

“After a thorough search, we found several number plates for different vehicle registrations. We are still conducting investigation to find out why the lady was in possession of those number plates,” Anyir added.
