2 suspects arrested as more firearms recovered in Elgeyo Marakwet crackdown

The Multi-Agency security operation in Elgeyo Marakwet County has continued to yield fruits during the dusk to dawn curfew.

On Sunday, June 19 2022 officers from the National Police Service arrested two banditry suspects after recovering rounds of ammunition, empty magazines, and two pouches in Tot, Marakwet East.

Police said Abraham Kiptum and Brandon Kilimo were arrested after an intelligence operation and search in their homes.

“After conducting a thorough search in his residence, the officers recovered the following items; 76 rounds of ammunition, seven empty magazines of AK-47, four empty magazines of G-3, one AK- 47 pouch, and one side pouch,” NPS said in a report.

The officers also recovered two Angola shirts, one jungle green lanyard, banned industrial chemicals namely Furon 5GR, one APS member of inspectorate pullover, one Green jungle trouser, 43 arrows, seven bows, three quivers, and assorted personal items.

Members of the public have been urged to continue cooperating with the security team to ensure that there is security in the area and that peace is restored.

They have also been called to voluntarily surrender the illegal firearms in their possession.

More firearms recovered in Elgeyo Marakwet

Last week, the Multi-Agency security team in Elgeyo Marakwet County recovered 21 assault rifles and 13 rounds of ammunition of diverse calibres.

One hundred and seven people were also arrested for various violations including cattle rustling.

At the start of June Imposed the government imposed a 30-day curfew and launched a massive disarmament operation in Kerio Valley and other areas in the North Rift ravaged by armed conflicts.
