UCL knockouts: Real Madrid, PSG, Dortmund predictions and team preview
By William Muthama, February 16, 2026The UEFA Champions League knockout playoffs return on Tuesday, February 16, 2026, with four high-profile matches set to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
Sixteen teams begin their two-legged battles for a spot in the last 16, while the top eight sides from the revamped group stage are already waiting.
English teams dominate the top eight, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham among the top five. Chelsea and Manchester City round off the top eight. But this week’s playoffs promise plenty of drama, as seasoned European heavyweights clash with hungry underdogs.
Benfica vs Real Madrid
Benfica stormed into the knockout rounds thanks to Anatoliy Trubin’s 98th-minute goal, making him only the fifth goalkeeper in UCL history to score. They are unbeaten in five games and carry the momentum from a 4-2 win over Real Madrid in January.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have won their last three matches, scoring eight goals despite injuries to key players like Jude Bellingham and Rodrigo. Both teams boast attacking quality, but Benfica’s recent form makes them tough to beat at home.
Prediction: Benfica 2-1 Real Madrid
Galatasaray vs Juventus
Galatasaray are back in the knockout stage for the first time since 2013/14. The Turkish side has been in excellent form, winning four of their last six UCL encounters against Juventus and scoring 15 goals in a recent four-game streak across competitions. Mauro Icardi leads their attack, fresh from a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory over Eyupspor.
Juventus, though winless in their last three matches, have the firepower to snatch a narrow win. The Italians haven’t beaten Galatasaray since 2003, but experience could tilt the balance in their favour.
Prediction: Juventus 2-1 Galatasaray
Borussia Dortmund vs Atalanta
Dortmund and Atalanta meet with similar form, both having lost only once in their last five matches. Dortmund are on a three-match winning streak after a 4-0 rout of Mainz, while Atalanta impressed with a 2-0 win against Lazio.
The teams last met in the 2018 Europa League, where Dortmund advanced 4-3 on aggregate. Historically, German sides have struggled against Italian opposition in the UCL, but Dortmund’s current momentum gives them an edge.
Prediction: Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Atalanta
Monaco vs PSG
The all-French clash sees Monaco host PSG, with both sides vying for a strong first-leg advantage. PSG have struggled for consistency this season, coming off a 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Rennes.

Monaco ended a five-game winless streak against PSG last November with a 1-0 victory and followed that with a 3-1 win over Nantes.
Home advantage could help Monaco, but PSG’s star power ensures they remain in contention. Expect an open, goal-filled game.
Prediction: PSG 2-2 Monaco
Juventus, Benfica, and Dortmund are tipped to edge their games, while Monaco and PSG could share the spoils in a thrilling French showdown. Fans should expect goals, drama, and moments that could define the knockout stage.
