Simba SC pile pressure on Zico’s Prisons as David Ouma’s Singida Black Stars shine
By Luke Oluoch, February 23, 2026Kenyan coaching pair Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and David Ouma experienced contrasting fortunes in the Tanzanian Premier League on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Ouma’s Singida Black Stars ran out comfortable 3-1 victors over close rivals Mtibwa Sugar in Dodoma. Meanwhile, the result extended the worrying trend for Zedekiah Otieno’s Tanzania Prisons, who suffered another defeat to giants Simba SC.
In the first clash at Manungu Stadium, Mossi Nduwumwe, Horso Malanga (Mwaku), and defender Kennedy Juma supplied the goals for David Ouma’s charges in a dominant win over Mtibwa.
Raizin Hafidh’s late strike came as a consolation for the home side. With the victory, the Black Stars moved up a rank to tenth place, shifting focus fully to the league campaign after exiting the CAF Confederation Cup.
In the other match at the same venue (or nearby), Zedekiah Otieno’s Tanzania Prisons slumped to a 0-2 loss against Simba SC.
Zico’s tough start to life
South African Rushine De Reuck’s and Selemani Mwalimu’s strikes saw the Tanzanian giants edge out the Wajelajela. The former Gor Mahia coach has overseen a tumultuous stint with the struggling outfit since taking charge at the start of the year. Zico was rumoured to be on his way out in mid-February after a 4-1 defeat to Coastal Union but remained in his role, though pressure continues to mount amid ongoing poor results.

The win saw Steve Barker’s Simba SC climb to fourth on the log with 22 points, just one point behind Pamba Jiji FC, coached by fellow Kenyan Francis Barasa.
Meanwhile, Zico’s Tanzania Prisons sit in 14th position on 12 points after 14 games.
The side has claimed only three wins in the league this term and is in danger of dropping into the relegation zone among the two teams most at risk of sliding down to the second tier.
