Pep Guardiola responds over his future at Manchester City
By Luke Oluoch, May 20, 2026Pep Guardiola has insisted that he will decide his future after talks with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
There have been reports that the City boss departing the Etihad after a decade-long tenure, with City already earmarking former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca as the front-runner to replace the 55-year-old.
The matter was subject on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, as City’s title push ended in disappointing fashion with the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, securing a first league title for Arsenal in 22 years.

Speaking afterwards, the Spaniard, who has since congratulated Arsenal, revealed that a decision about his future was yet to be made.
“Listen, I have one more year on my contract. I will not tell you [a decision] here because I have to talk with my chairman, with my players, with my staff because when we play for the FA Cup, qualification for the Champions League, and the Premier League, it is just one thing in my mind and focus: try to bring the team to the highest point, and it’s what we have done,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports.
Talks with the chairman
The Spaniard recently led City to the FA Cup title, marking his 20th title in his ten years at City.
“The first person I have to talk to is my chairman because we both decided that when we finish the season, we will sit and we will talk. It is as simple as that, and after we will take the decision,” he clarified.
His departure, if it comes to that, will be a huge blow to Man City fans and players coming to terms with the eventual loss of the league title.
The Cityzens had only taken charge of the league title race with less than half a dozen fixtures to play before a defeat at Everton, delivered by a late Mark Guehi gaffe, switched the advantage to Mike Arteta’s side, and the Gunners never looked back.
