Not Yet MLS! Antoine Griezmann’s future finally settled
By Luke Oluoch, March 7, 2026Frenchman Antoine Griezmann has elected to remain at the Spanish capital club Atlético Madrid, ending speculation about his future that had been rife with talk of a possible departure.
The veteran French star was reported to be on his way out of Madrid as he sees out the final year of his contract, set to expire at the end of the season.
“Griezmann stays with us,” Atleti’s director Mateu Alemany confirmed, as reported by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Despite his age, the 34-year-old striker remains a key part of Diego Simeone’s squad, featuring in 38 matches across all competitions.
MLS possibilities
A move to Major League Soccer (MLS) is, however, not entirely out of the picture for the 2018 World Cup winner.
Orlando City, Inter Miami, and Montreal have all shown interest in the Frenchman.
Orlando City, in particular, remains in talks over a free transfer in July for the player, with focus now shifting to the summer transfer window.
The former Barcelona man has proved a crucial cog of Diego Simeone’s side in the 2025/26 season, even as his role has seen some shifts.

Across all competitions, the French forward has clocked 1,700 minutes on the pitch, starting 16 games while making impactful cameos from the substitutes’ bench.
His attacking output remains sharp, with 14 goal contributions in total, contributing to 12 goals and two assists. Griezmann has been a creator as well, fashioning 39 scoring chances for his teammates and carving out 7 big chances that presented golden opportunities.
He was recently a part of Madrid’s sweet revenge against his former team, Barcelona, in the Copa del Rey semi-finals despite being on the wrong end of a 3-0 thrashing at the Camp Nou on March 3, 2026.
In the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, he has delivered 3 goals and 1 assist, while ranking as Atlético’s top scorer in the Copa del Rey with an impressive 5 goals.
