Mathare Women’s enhances Premier League promotion bid with victory over Bandari

By , February 22, 2026

Mathare United Women added more impetus to their quest for FKF Women’s Premier League return following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bandari Queens.

The victory put the Ann Aluoch-coached side seven points clear at the top of the FKF Women’s National Super League Zone A.

The victory was particularly critical, as the tie came as a potential promotion six-pointer for the two teams leading the zone standings, with the Coastal Queens standing as the serious challengers to the Slum ladies.

The travelling Dockers had claimed an upset against Mathare, slowing their promotion push in their past visit to the coastal city.

Race for FKF WPL promotion

Resilient slum dwellers, however, shrugged off the loss by beating Gor Mahia Queens in their next encounter a week ago to return to the wins and continue their title and promotion from Zone A.

Against Bandari Queens on Saturday, the match’s clincher came from substitute Faith Ochieng, who stepped off the bench to coolly slot past the keeper for the goal.

The Slum Boys were also kept in the tie, with towering goalkeeper Valentine Kwaka coming clutch with crucial saves.

In other clashes, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopardess Queens also recorded important results with respective wins.

Lucky Achando bagged the all-important goal for the Mercy Odhiambo-coached team to edge Gitothua Starlets 1-0 in a tight encounter.

Leopardess wins

On their part, Leopardess scored twice to silence a determined Barcelona SC 2-1 at the Nyahururu Stadium today.

Skipper Evamia Nyakha broke the deadlock in the opening half to set Leopardess on the winning course, before the hosts battled back to level matters.

The Leopardess maintained their push and were fittingly rewarded as Veronica Apondi later sealed the tie with a well-taken goal to send the visiting sides home with maximum points.

Moving The Goalposts (MTG) were also winners over Hildana Queens.
