Mathare Utd welcomes Tusker in crucial FKF Premier League action

By , February 14, 2026

The 2008 Kenyan Premier League champions, Mathare United, resume their current league campaign on Saturday, February 14, 2026, after a two-week break and welcome Tusker FC at the Police Sacco Stadium in a crunch tie scheduled for 4:00 pm local time.

With no Cup action last weekend, John Kamau’s men have used the time away from competitive action to regroup and also maximise on rest as the second half of the season gains momentum.

The Slum Boys will be looking for maximum points against the Brewers to continue creating further daylight between them and the bottom three teams, and a key figure in the team, Francis Kayugi, has shared the mindset of the players going into this match.

Kayugi speaks

“It is not an easy game nor is it a hard one,” Kayugi, who recently returned to the team after a recent injury absence, said, “It will depend on how we, the players, prepare for this match, both physically and mentally,” the defender told Mathare United FC media.

“It is a must-win game for us, as you can see, we haven’t started the second leg as we would have hoped, with just one point from two games, and we do not want to dig ourselves further down the standings.” He said.

Kayugi is in his second season with the team. This term, the centre half has grown into his own and has been crucial in the eight clean sheets we have kept. His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, as he was recently awarded a contract extension, offsetting talk of a move away during the recently concluded mid-season transfer window.

Speaking on the rumours, Kayugi said, “The transfer rumours have been true, and they have unsettled me, I can confess. But not to the extent where I am not ready to serve the team. I am focusing fully on the team and any transfer business I have left fully for the club to handle.” He said. The reverse match against Tusker, played at Dandora Stadium back in October, ended 0-0.
