Gor Mahia edge Migori Youth to clinch Green Legacy Cup
By Luke Oluoch, August 16, 2026Gor Mahia have won the inaugural Green Legacy Cup after edging Migori Youth 4–3 in a penalty shootout in a thrilling preseason clash staged at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The two teams could not be separated in normal time, battling to a 2–2 draw.
Gor stunned
The newly promoted Football Kenya Premier League outfit stunned K’Ogalo early on to take a 2–0 lead, but the KPL kings showed their top-flight pedigree to mount a memorable comeback. New signings Dennis Oguta and Philemon Nyakwaka got on the scoresheet to stun Gor Mahia.
It was a dismal start for Charles Akonnor’s side, who had already missed a penalty through Shariff Musa.
FKF PL debutants challenge Gor
The injury-hit Gor Mahia missed Samuel Kapen, Felix Oluoch, Patrick Essombe, and captain Sylvester Owino through injuries, and handed a debut to new arrival Potiphar Odhiambo.
Meanwhile, Ebenezer Ocran was also handed a starting berth alongside Ugandan Dennis Omedi, who joined K’Ogalo’s camp in the concluded CECAFA Kagame Cup games in Rwanda a couple of weeks ago
K’Ogalo pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage time through Paul Okoth.
Ebenezer Assifuah then drew K’Ogalo level just a minute after entering the fray in place of an off-colour Musa.

With plenty of time for either team to find a winner, Akonnor brought on Alpha Onyango to push for victory before he made final changes, bringing on Ben Stanley and Enock Machaka in place of Ghanaian Ebenezer Adu-kwaw and Jackson Dwang.
However, neither side could claim a late goal to decide the encounter, sending the game to penalties.
Gor Mahia proved to be the better side in the shootout, securing the victory 4–3.
Preseason preparations
The clash served as a key buildup test match for Charles Akonnor’s team, who are angling for the FKF Super Cup showdown against Tusker FC and their upcoming CAF Champions League qualifying ties against Pyramids FC.
The ties will be preceded by a trip to Eldoret on Saturday, August 22, 2026, where Great Rift FC awaits the Kenyan champions at the ASK Eldoret Showground
