The workshop, which was facilitated by CAF Head of Security Christian Emeruwa on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, brought together key security stakeholders tasked with strengthening the country’s preparedness ahead of the continental showpiece.
Speaking after the event, Mwangi said the initiative marks an important step in building a robust safety and security framework that will guarantee the protection of players, officials, and football fans during the tournament.
Government’s commitment
“This workshop is very important in delivering a CAF compliant football event. For an event of PAMOJA AFCON 2027 magnitude, security is a central pillar towards successfully delivery of this great event,” Mwangi said..

The Sports PS officiated the workshop alongside Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed, emphasising the importance of collaboration among various institutions in delivering a world-class AFCON event.
On his part, Hussein Mohammed said: “We must address all gaps to ensure we stage a unique tournament that provides unique fan experience for Kenya’s fans,” he said.
Among those in attendance were AFCON 2027 LOC Chairman Nicholas Musonye, senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, and representatives from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. The stakeholders are expected to form the core Safety and Security Committee that will operate within the LOC structure.
According to Hussein Mohammed, ensuring proper coordination and security planning remains central to the successful hosting of AFCON 2027, which Kenya will co-host alongside neighboring East African nations, Uganda and Tanzania between June and July 2027.
The workshop comes as preparations for AFCON 2027 continue to gather momentum, with organisers focusing on infrastructure development, logistics, and operational readiness to ensure the competition meets international standards.

Meanwhile, Hussein Mohammed has also said that as Kenya concludes the Africa Forward Summit, he is convinced that the country’s efforts to mainstream the sports industry and particularly football agenda into out national agenda is taking shape.
He added that Kenya must be present at every table, every conversation and every decision that potentially affects the football industry. The FKF chief said that he will continue to champion collaboration across the board in line with his mandate as a member of the institutional relations committee at FIFA.
