Ingwe! Ingwe! Fans chant rend Nyayo Stadium as AFC Leopards close in on Gor Mahia
By Luke Oluoch, March 29, 2026AFC Leopards may still be playing second-fiddle to leaders Gor Mahia in the FKF Premier League title race, but the club remains upbeat as the season heads into the homestretch.
Four points behind
A wave of celebratory chants of “Ingwe! Ingwe!” filled the air at Nyayo National Stadium shortly after a spectacular 1-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
The win, courtesy of Tyson Otieno’s superb strike, sustained the club’s title prospects as they moved to just four points adrift of Gor Mahia, who remained out of action this weekend due to their players being on international duty with Harambee Stars in the FIFA Series games.
Celebrations
The sea of AFC Leopards fans in attendance seized the moment to savour the team’s third consecutive 1-0 victory, joining the playing unit in a round of applause.

Winger James Kinyanjui, a fan favorite throughout this title-chasing season, led the carnival-like celebrations as the players acknowledged the supporters after the clash.
The joyous scenes stand in stark contrast to events just weeks ago, when sections of the fanbase stormed the pitch following a humiliating 4-1 loss to Mathare United on March 14, demanding the ouster of coach Fred Ambani.
Since then, Ingwe has turned their fortunes around with three slim, back-to-back wins against former champions Tusker FC, Nairobi United, and now the Sharks.
Onus on Gor Mahia
Charles Akonnor’s Gor Mahia side, however, still holds a game in hand and will need back-to-back wins to restore their seven-point cushion at the summit.
The FKF PL leaders will next return to action with a clash against Tusker and Sharks next on their roster.
This crucial victory for Fred Ambani’s charges comes at a critical juncture. The injury-ravaged squad is operating with a razor-thin margin for error as the league enters its final rounds.
The former Kenyan giants are seeking to break a long-standing domestic drought, having last won the league title in 1998. But could they be in for the famous football adage ‘it is the hope that kills,’ which basically cautions against entertaining optimism or expectation for a positive outcome that makes ultimate failure or disappointment far more painful, come to haunt them? considering the slim four-point gap between Ingwe and K’Ogalo.
