Gor Mahia coach drops brutal verdict after last-gasp draw against Posta Rangers

By , March 6, 2026

Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor delivered a damning verdict of their match week 23 opponents, Posta Rangers, slamming the club over anti-football tactics in the Thursday, March 5, 2026, draw at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The tied outcome saw Gor Mahia contend with dropped points for the first time after a run of seven straight games in the league.

While admitting that it was not the best of performances from his title-chasing side, the Ghanaian opined that the team had to pick the point earned and extend their lead.

Bad game

“Today is probably one of the bad games we have played. In spite of that, we got a goal out of it and avoided a defeat,” he remarked.

Akonnor did not pull punches in his post-match reactions, slamming their opponent for employing anti-football antics during the clash.

The tactician particularly took issues with Rangers’ keeper Bixente Otieno, who went down on many occasions while claiming to be injured, describing the spectacle as a betrayal of fans who paid to watch and enjoy the game

“Football is supposed to be played in 90 minutes, but if you look, we played only 25 or 30 minutes in the first half. There are ways to waste time, but not the way their keeper was behaving.

“It is not good for football and those who pay money to come and watch,” he lamented.

Akonnor further underscored that the club will remain focused as attention turns to the next assignment, with league matches coming thick and fast.

SDT ruling

Meanwhile, in a strange twist of events, Akonnor and Gor Mahia could see their lead at the top of the FKF Premier League table reduced further after the Sports Dispute Tribunal ordered the FKF League and Competition Committee to review its ruling on an earlier abandoned clash against Nairobi United.

In a statement on Friday, March 6, 2026, SDT directed the said committee to rehear the matter and issue a fresh and fair ruling. The tribunal quashed the decision to award one point each to the clubs following the abandonment of the December fixture at Dandora Stadium, citing application of irregular laws.

With Nairobi United sitting mid-table of the FKF standings, the matter remains of significant importance for Gor Mahia, who could see their seven-point lead at the top of the table further reduced by a point in case of an unfavourable ruling.

Gor currently tops the league standings by seven points with 50, with AFC Leopards coming in second. with 43 points.
