FKF President Hussein Mohammed mourns Utumishi Girls’ Academy fire victims

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF), led by President Hussein Mohammed, has sent a message of condolence following the tragic fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

In his statement, Hussein Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, extending sympathies to the bereaved families, the school administration, students, and the wider Utumishi Girls Academy community.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the school administration, students, and the entire Utumishi Girls Academy community following the fire tragedy,” said Hussein Mohammed.

The FKF president noted that the federation stands together with all those mourning the devastating loss, adding that the country continues to pray for strength and healing for the affected families and survivors.

“Our thoughts are with you during this unimaginable time. May the departed rest in peace, and may the injured and affected find strength and healing in the days ahead,” he added.

The tragic incident has sparked an outpouring of grief and support from leaders, institutions, and Kenyans across the country, with many calling for unity and compassion during the difficult period.

Hussein Mohammed further reaffirmed solidarity with everyone impacted by the tragedy, emphasizing the importance of standing together in moments of national sorrow.

Government’s response

Shortly after the tragic incident, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director, Mohamed Amin, have arrived at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil following a tragic dormitory fire at the school. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba also joined them at the institution.

The senior government officials convened with emergency response teams already on the ground as investigations into the incident continue.

Authorities are working to establish the cause of the fire, which broke out at 3:30 am on Thursday, May 28, 2026, while also assessing the condition of the students affected.
