FKF appoints Dennis Gicheru as new CEO to replace Harold Ndege
By Luke Oluoch, February 6, 2026Football Kenya Federation has confirmed the appointment of Dennis Gicheru as the new acting General Secretary/Chief Executive Officer.
The federation has revealed the appointment made on Friday, February 6, 2026, remains a temporary venture, pending the advertisement and substantive filling of the role.
Gicheru is currently serving as the Head of Legal Affairs in the Football Kenya Federation. He played as a defender for the now-defunct Wazito FC and Posta Rangers before later rising to become the former’s CEO, leveraging his legal background.
He will now handle the administrative affairs of the federation, replacing Harold Ndege, whose tumultuous tenure comes to an end almost a year after the new administration led by Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga came to power.

“We wish to announce that FKF Head of Legal Affairs, Dennis Gicheru, has been appointed Acting General Secretary/CEO pending the advertisement and substantive filling of the position.
The appointment takes effect immediately,” the FKF statement read.
Gicheru’s appointment reflects the ongoing power struggle under the current FKF administration, which has seen President Mohammed and Ndege at loggerheads for quite some time now.
Ndege, who joined FKF as CEO in January 2025 after Patrick Korir stepped aside, has since been effectively replaced, albeit not having officially resigned.
Hussein-Ndege row
Things started heading south for the embattled official in January 2026, when Mohammed initiated Ndege’s removal by issuing a show-cause letter with 21 charges, citing financial issues and governance lapses, among other misdemeanours, as the basis for his calls for Ndege’s ouster from the federation.
In a letter dated December 31, 2025, Mohammed listed 21 reasons why the FKF must uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability, stressing that he was ready to take the hard path to bring sanity to Kenyan football.
“If we are to compete with the best in the world, we must decisively deal with incompetence, mediocrity, corruption, and ineptitude,” he wrote. He admitted the reform process would be painful but insisted it was necessary,” he stated.
Ndege fought back against the allegations, opting for a legal route while lamenting FKF officials removing him from the National Executive Committee WhatsApp group.
The lamentation was later followed by claims of his life being in danger after unknown individuals accosted him at the federation’s headquarters at Kandanda House on Monday, January 19, 2026..
