Marcus Rashford handed new jersey number for Manchester United’s 2026/27 season

Marcus Rashford is set to don the No. 9 jersey at his boyhood club after returning from his loan spell at Barcelona. The returning star is among the players handed a new squad number alongside a host of summer recruits for the 2026/27 campaign.

Manchester United confirmed the new numbers just before the team’s Premier League opener against Hull City AFC this Saturday, August 22, 2026, away at the MKM Stadium.

Rashford’s previous No. 10 jersey now belongs to Matheus Cunha, who joined the club last season from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Rashford wore the No. 14 shirt during his loan stint at Barcelona and retained it during several pre-season matches.

This comes as United look to integrate the English attacker back into the squad. Speaking before the clash, Michael Carrick registered his contentment with the returning striker.

Carrick on Rashford’s return

“Marcus has come back fantastically well,” Carrick said. “He’s enjoying his football, he looks fit, sharp, strong, and ready to play. I’ve been delighted with him since he came back. He can play through the middle and has done so. I wouldn’t say it’s his number-one position, but he can do it, and we’ve got forwards that give us flexibility right across that front line.”

Rashford officially debuts his new No. 9 shirt today, though he starts this fixture on the bench. Meanwhile, among the other summer arrivals integrated into the side, midfielder Youri Tielemans takes over the No. 18 shirt and earns a starting nod.

He partners Brazilian talent Andrey Santos, who sports No. 17. Experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow wears No. 12, with Senne Lammens preferred in goal.

The United tie kicks off at 2:30 pm
