Inter Milan ready to increase Curtis Jones offer as Liverpool consider next move

By , August 1, 2026

Inter Milan are said to be preparing an improved bid for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, although the Premier League champions remain determined to receive a higher transfer fee before allowing the academy graduate to leave.

Liverpool continue their pre-season preparations with a clash against Leeds United in Chicago on Sunday. It is expected that head coach Andoni Iraola will field a stronger starting lineup than he did in his opening two friendly matches, with Jones among the players hoping to feature.

The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his current contract, making his future a major talking point during the summer transfer window. Earlier in the transfer window, Inter submitted an offer worth slightly above £20 million, but Liverpool rejected it as it fell well below their reported £35 million valuation.

According to fresh reports, the Serie A giants are now prepared to increase their proposal to around £30 million. Even so, Liverpool are believed to be reluctant to lower their asking price and could continue negotiating in search of a better deal.

Is it the right time for Liverpool to cash in?

Curtis Jones has divided opinion among Liverpool supporters throughout his senior career. While many believe he has matured into a reliable midfielder, others feel he has not consistently fulfilled the potential he displayed during his breakthrough years.

One of Jones’ strongest qualities remains his ability to retain possession. Last season, he recorded a pass completion rate of 91.6%, the second-highest among Premier League midfielders, highlighting his composure and efficiency on the ball.

Despite those impressive numbers, critics have often argued that he slows Liverpool’s attacks by taking too many touches before releasing the ball. Former Reds defender Jamie Carragher has previously suggested the midfielder can be guilty of holding onto possession longer than necessary.

Appearances: 34

Starts: 18

Goals: 1

Assists: 2

Accurate passes per game: 44.4

Duel success rate: 51%

Even with those criticisms, Jones has shown increasing confidence in progressing the ball into attacking areas over the past two seasons.

However, with only one year remaining on his contract, Liverpool face an important decision. If the midfielder wants a more prominent role than the club can guarantee, selling him this summer may represent the most practical solution for both sides.

Potential midfield replacements

Should Liverpool complete Jones’ departure, they would have room to strengthen their midfield with a new arrival.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton remains an attractive option thanks to his creativity from deep positions and his ability to dictate play. His passing range could further enhance the attacking talents of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

Another possibility is Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara. Known for his aggressive ball-winning ability and high work rate, Camara’s style appears well suited to the intense pressing approach that Iraola is expected to implement at Anfield.

Liverpool are therefore expected to weigh their options carefully in the coming weeks as they decide whether to accept Inter’s improved offer or continue demanding a fee closer to their original valuation.
