‘I understand the frustration’ – Carrick tells Manchester United fans amid poor run
By Luke Oluoch, September 21, 2026Michael Carrick has remained adamant that he is cognisant of the concerns raised by a section of Manchester United fans regarding the club’s start to the season.
Speaking after the draw against Fulham on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Craven Cottage, the manager insisted that he shares those concerns and is not in any way downplaying the poor start to the campaign.
The Englishman also added that he understands the frustrations but pointed out that there is still a big season ahead and a long way to go.
The draw, salvaged with a last-gasp equaliser by Matheus Cunha, was the club’s second in five games, marking the joint-lowest point tally by the club as they remain 12th in the standings.

“It is still a big season ahead, and to be fair, we are going to have a long season with spells and moments—the league is a long sprint. We have to understand… I understand the frustration, of course I do, because we wanted to be better, and we wanted to do other things. But the deflation, I think, is certainly not what we have or want within the club,” he added.
Deflation
He sent a word of caution, challenging the fan base to focus on issues that will propel the team to beat the scrap, get back to winning ways, and improve with so much to achieve ahead of them.
“What will carry us through the season is, without doubt, the belief and determination,” he added.
Carrick also contradicted Matheus Cunha, who suggested in his post-match comments that Fulham had more energy than United during the game.
“It did not look like that for me. I was quite happy with the way we finished the game. I thought we finished really strongly, actually, and kept pushing. So I don’t think that’s an issue, no.”
With the international calendar providing a break for the players and the coaching staff to reset and rethink, Carrick and his team will be seeking improved fortunes as the club returns to action in over a fortnight.
The Red Devils will be back at Old Trafford to host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, October 10, 2026, before travelling to Spain to face Atletico Madrid three days later on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
