The reigning champions have won all four of their league matches so far and have also maintained a 100 per cent record across all competitions. Brighton, meanwhile, arrive at the encounter full of confidence after producing a spectacular 5-0 victory over Coventry City before following that up with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Manchester United in the EFL Cup.
Mikel Arteta’s side were forced to work hard for their latest league victory, edging Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Bruno Guimaraes opened the scoring with a fine finish before Bukayo Saka converted from the penalty spot.
David Raya also played a crucial role by saving Enzo Le Fee’s penalty, while Arsenal survived a controversial moment involving Ezri Konsa and Daniel Ballard.
The victory meant Arsenal had started a Premier League campaign with four consecutive wins for only the fourth time. They previously achieved the feat in 2022-23, 2004-05 and during the famous unbeaten 2003-04 campaign.
However, the Gunners know that an impressive start does not automatically guarantee a title-winning season. Arsenal’s 2003-04 team failed to win their fifth league match after drawing with Portsmouth, while the 2004-05 and 2022-23 sides also failed to finish top despite winning their opening five fixtures.
Arsenal have nevertheless shown no signs of slowing down. Arteta rotated his squad for Tuesday’s EFL Cup meeting with Ipswich Town and still secured a 4-2 victory.
Teenager Max Dowman was once again at the centre of attention after scoring twice, becoming the first male Arsenal player to register a brace before his 17th birthday.
Brighton have also developed a reputation for attacking football this season. Fabian Hurzeler’s team have scored at least four goals in four of their opening five matches, including their emphatic victory over Coventry.
Lewis Dunk produced one of the highlights of that match with a spectacular long-range strike, while Charalampos Kostoulas, Malick Yalcouye, Yasin Ayari and Pascal Gross also found the net.
The Seagulls have scored 13 league goals so far, a total that places them among the division’s most productive attacking sides. They currently sit fifth in the standings and are just one point away from the top three.
Their confidence received another boost in midweek when they overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford. It was a historic result, marking the first time in 50 years that United had lost at home after establishing a two-goal advantage.
Despite Brighton’s impressive recent results, Arsenal have enjoyed the upper hand in this fixture. The Gunners are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with the Seagulls and completed a league double over them during the 2025/26 campaign.
Team news
Arsenal are expected to welcome Jurrien Timber back into the starting XI after the defender was rested for the Ipswich match as a precaution.
Piero Hincapie, Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera are all doubts because of respective muscle and groin problems, although Arteta has indicated that the players are not dealing with major issues.
William Saliba remains unavailable with a back injury and is expected to spend several more weeks on the sidelines.
Despite his outstanding display against Ipswich, Dowman is likely to return to the substitutes’ bench as Arteta restores his preferred starting lineup for the Premier League contest.
Brighton also have concerns of their own. Jaouen Hadjam picked up an injury during the victory over Manchester United and could miss Saturday’s encounter, potentially paving the way for Ferdi Kadioglu to return.
Georginio Rutter made his comeback from an ankle problem in midweek, but Brighton remain without a sizeable group of players.
Femi Azeez, Evan Ferguson, Zadok Yohanna, Mats Wieffer, Jack Hinshelwood, Kaoru Mitoma, Yankuba Minteh and Stefanos Tzimas are all expected to remain sidelined.
Hurzeler is likely to make several changes after rotating his squad at Old Trafford, with Maxim De Cuyper expected to return to the starting XI following his decisive midweek performance.
