Easiest routes to Nyayo Stadium for Mashemeji Derby ahead of expected traffic disruptions
By Joel Masibo, April 26, 2026As the Mashemeji Derby mood builds ahead of the eagerly anticipated clash between Football Kenya Federation Premier League bitter rivals AFC Leopards SC and Gor Mahia on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Nyayo National Stadium, traffic disruptions are expected across all roads leading to Sunday’s match venue.
Routes to Nyayo
However, to the rescue of football lovers heading to Nyayo for the mouth-watering encounter, Leopards have mapped out multiple access points across Nairobi, urging fans from different parts of the city to converge at the historical venue for the derby showdown, with security plans already in place to ensure match safety.

The 99th edition of Mashemeji Derby fixture is scheduled to kick off at 3:00 pm local time, setting the stage for yet another chapter in one of Kenyan football’s fiercest rivalries.
Supporters travelling from the Central Business District can use Kenyatta Avenue, connecting to Uhuru Highway, which leads directly to the stadium. Those coming from Nairobi West can access the venue via Lang’ata Road or Aerodrome Road, while fans from Lang’ata are guided to follow Lang’ata Road straight to Nyayo.
For fans approaching from the eastern side of the city, Mombasa Road provides a direct route through the Nyayo junction or roundabout. Similarly, supporters from South B and South C are encouraged to use Mombasa Road or Popo Road to reach the stadium with ease.
Captains speak
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards skipper Victor Omune has emphasised the significance of the upcoming Mashemeji Derby, noting that it comes with much at stake.
Speaking ahead of the Sunday, April 26, 2026, meeting, Omune reckoned that their eyes are on their season targets, with a win against Gor coming in handy in getting the job done. The two sides are separated by three points at the summit of the league standings. Gor Mahia lead the table with 58 points, while Leopards occupy the second position with 55 points, making the Derby an important duel.

“There is a lot at stake, making this meeting different. We have worked hard as a team to be where we are, and I believe what we have achieved this far is deserved. Mentally, I believe we are ready, and for us, we only have to win as we look to achieve our season targets,” he stated.
On the other hand, Gor Mahia skipper Philemon Otieno has also signalled the importance of protecting K’Ogalo’s bragging rights and pride as the team angles for the game, saying: “As one of the senior-most players on the team, I have to encourage the team. I urge them to protect the bragging rights of our team,” he implored.
