Boost for Manchester United as Patrick Dorgu returns to full training
By Joel Masibo, April 5, 2026Manchester United have confirmed that winger Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu has made further progress in his rehabilitation process.
The 21-year-old has been sidelined since January 2026 after picking up an injury during the club’s 3-2 victory away to Arsenal on Sunday, January 25, 2026. That match saw him score with a powerful strike that bounced in off the crossbar to put United ahead.

His absence came shortly after an impressive spell, during which he scored a standout goal against Newcastle United and also found the net in the derby clash with Manchester City.
Following the setback, Dorgu has been undergoing rehabilitation at the club’s Carrington training facility under the supervision of medical staff, focusing on fitness and strength work. The latest update shows that he has now advanced to light on-field sessions, training individually as part of the next stage of his recovery.
Meanwhile, Dorgu’s return comes after Manchester United have confirmed plans for a major pre-season clash in Ireland, with the club expecting a full house when they face their rivals, Leeds United, in Dublin ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
In a statement released on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the club has highlighted its strong fan base in Ireland and predicted high attendance for the much-anticipated fixture on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The club also confirmed that more details regarding the broader pre-season programme will be released soon. In the statement, United added that “Further information on our full summer schedule, including additional European fixtures, will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Club leadership excited
Manchester United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, expressed enthusiasm about the club’s return to Ireland and the opportunity to face a historic rival.
“We’re excited to be heading to Dublin to face Leeds United as part of our pre-season preparations ahead of a big campaign,” he said.
“Playing an important fixture against one of our biggest rivals gives us a fantastic opportunity to connect with our supporters in Ireland. Their passion and energy will be invaluable as we build momentum and ensure the squad is in the strongest possible shape for the start of the 2026/27 season.”
However, although there is still no confirmed date for Patrick Dorgu’s return to competitive action, the current objective is for him to rejoin the squad before the campaign concludes.
