English Premier League side Arsenal FC has presented a commemorative item in honour of the late former Prime Minister and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Amolo Odinga, recognising his well-known support for the North London club.

The tribute was received in Nairobi by ODM Communications Director Philip Etale, who collected it on behalf of the departed statesman on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Speaking after receiving the package, Etale expressed excitement, noting that as an Arsenal supporter himself, it was a privilege to accept the recognition on behalf of his former employer.

Memorabilia generally refers to items preserved because of their link to notable personalities, historic moments, or memorable experiences, often holding sentimental, historical, or personal significance. Such items may include signed jerseys, old concert tickets, vintage posters, yearbooks, or photographs tied to important occasions.

In this particular instance, the late former Prime Minister was honoured posthumously with a mounted photograph capturing the English Premier League clash between Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC played on Thursday, January 8, 2026, where the game ended in a barren draw.

The commemorative piece also included a message engraved by the club that read: “Arsenal remembers the Rt Honourable Raila Amollo Odinga.”

Upon receiving the parcel, Etale explained that he intends to hand over the item to Raila’s family, led by his widow, Ida Odinga. According to him, the parcel may have arrived earlier but was likely delayed in the postal process.

“This parcel I have just received today, and I think that it was sent in January and could have been delayed by the post office, which could have failed to notify our office,” Etale said in a video shared on his social media pages.

“I will look for Mama Ida Odinga to give her the gift which was sent to our hero and party leader, Raila Odinga,” he added while thanking Arsenal FC for remembering the departed hero.

Raila’s love for Arsenal

Raila was widely known for his passion for Arsenal FC and frequently posted photos wearing the club’s jerseys while celebrating their victories at his home.

He also travelled to England on several occasions to watch the team live, including a memorable visit to Emirates Stadium alongside his children Winnie Odinga and Raila Odinga Junior. Raila Odinga passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment in India at the age of 80.
