Albert Muema: Meet Harambee Stars striker making waves in Europe
By Kiplagat Sang, April 2, 2026Kenyan player Albert Muema is making waves in Europe, where he is playing in the National League of Austria.
Muema has been playing in Austria for the last three years and has played 83 games and scored 48 goals. He is currently playing for SCG Eckarstau in the National League and was in a sports camp in Lindabrunn, Austria.
This sports camp is visited frequently by the Austrian national team, which has an Austrian-born Kenyan, Phillip Mwene, who plays for the Austrian national team and in the German Bundesliga for FSV Mainz.
Mwene was born in Vienna and holds dual citizenship of Kenya and Austria. He is a youth international for Austria. He was called up to the preliminary Austria squad for UEFA Euro 2020.
He made his debut for the Austria national football team in 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Israel, a 2-5 away loss. He started the game and played the whole match.
In February 2026, Muema’s team was there for three days, where they played some friendly games, and he managed to score two goals.
He managed to feature this year at a futsal tournament called the Vienna World Cup, which had four groups and had countries such as Germany, Austria, Croatia, Albania, Turkey, Ghana, Nigeria, Egypt, DRC Congo, Bosnia, Serbia and Kenya.
Muema captained the Kenyan side in their first-ever Futsal tournament, and Kenya’s group consisted of Austria, Albania and Egypt.

Who is Albert Muema?
The 33-year-old striker started his playing career in Kenya with Ligi Ndogo, where he was among the triumphant youngsters who travelled for the Keele Tournament staged in 2010 in Manchester, England.
He trained briefly with Tusker in 2014 under coach Francis Kimanzi for three months before he chose to study and play in Australia. He had great success, leading to winning a trophy with Broadbeach United in Australia’s Coast Premier League.
In 2015, he won the trophy with Broadbeach United in the National Premier League in Queensland. He also played for Eastern Suburbs FC, Wolves in Brisbane, and went on to play for Diamond Valley SC and Brandon Park United in Melbourne, Victoria.
