AFC Leopards Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ronald Namai has issued an important security update regarding the upcoming Mashemeji Derby, stressing that ample measures have been taken to avoid any incidents.

In a move aimed at dispelling fears, the host club, AFC Leopards, assured fans that the venue will provide a wholesome football experience with sufficient security for individuals and families attending in person.

Namai made the remarks on Friday, April 24, 2026, as the buildup to the highly anticipated 99th edition of the Mashemeji Derby draws to a close.

Safety guaranteed

“It is very safe. The purpose of hosting this is to make it a celebration of Kenyan football. We want to showcase Kenyan football to the world. We are coming peacefully; security will be ample,” he declared during an interview with a local publication.

Namai stated that gates will open as early as 10:00 am, five hours before the game kicks off at 3:00 pm. He also forewarned fans that all ticket inspections will be conducted strictly outside the stadium, ensuring that football remains the primary focus once inside.

Security personnel

“All ticket verification will be done outside the stadium. Once one steps into the stadium, it will be safe, and no incidents will occur, as no administrative activities will be done inside the stadium. \

“We have deployed eight platoons from the GSU and RDU for security, with an additional 180 stewards for security inside the stadium. Every inch of the stadium will have ample security, and stewards from both sides will beef up the presence. Come with your families and friends; we will have an enjoyable evening of football,” he added.

Flash sales of tickets

His sentiments come moments after Chairman Boniface Ambani also disclosed that a flash ticket sale was ongoing on Friday, April 24, 2026, two days ahead of the derby at Nyayo Stadium.

“For those who want to grab a ticket… we have a flash sale today starting from midday to 6:00 pm. We have always been doing it for our matches. Jipange tafadhali. Cheers,” his statement on Facebook read.

The encounter comes as both Leopards and Gor Mahia seek a result from the clash to gain ground in the intense league title race.

Gor and Ingwe are locked in a fierce two-horse race for the 2026 title, with the latter trailing by only three points, highlighting the importance of this meeting and its eventual result.
