AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani questions legitimacy of viral FKF rules

By , January 30, 2026

AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani has criticised the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following the circulation of what he termed as “viral rules of the game” on social media, raising serious concerns over their legality, origin and mode of adoption.

In a hard-hitting statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday, January 30, 2026, Ambani questioned when the claimed rules were approved and under whose authority they were enacted, arguing that key stakeholders appear to have been sidelined in the entire process.

Worrying concern

The former Harambee Stars forward expressed concern that clubs, which are directly affected by such regulations, were neither consulted nor involved in any meaningful engagement before the purported changes.

In his argument, Ambani further challenged FKF on whether any form of public participation took place before replacing the 2019 Rules, which clubs had been officially informed would remain in force at the start of the 2025/2026 season. He questioned the justification behind abandoning the 2019 framework, demanding clarity on what necessitated the sudden shift.

”I have seen posts doing rounds on social media over these rules. My question is: When were they passed? On whose authority? Were clubs and other stakeholders consulted over their enactment? Was there public participation on the replacement of the 2019 version of the Rules, which clubs were informed at the beginning of the 2025/2026 season would operate?” Ambani posed.

Adding to the controversy, the AFC Leopards boss noted that the said rules are nowhere to be found on the FKF official website, making it difficult for clubs and stakeholders to verify their authenticity. He argued that transparency is a non-negotiable requirement in football governance and that regulations governing the game must be publicly accessible.

Seeking answers

Ambani called on FKF to provide immediate answers, describing the situation as unacceptable and dismissing it as “jokes” that undermine the credibility of football administration in the country. He placed responsibility squarely on FKF President Mohammed Hussein, insisting that accountability must be exercised at the highest office.

”What informed the change of the 2019 Rules? Where can we get the Rules anyway? They are not on the FKF website. We seek answers.FKF, stop these jokes. The Buck stops at Mohammed Hussein’s office.” He continued.

Meanwhile, Ambani’s complaint comes at a moment when FKF President Hussein Mohammed has vowed to develop the country’s football industry through innovation and investment.
