Winnie Odinga says Oketch Salah is a serial liar

By , January 27, 2026

Raila’s adopted son? From where? Since when? Winnie Odinga has told Kenyans to believe what Oketch Salah tells them at their own risk.

Speaking exclusively to a local TV station on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Winnie directly stated that Oketch Salah was not present when the late Raila Odinga died, dismissing claims he has recently made as false and dangerous.

Winnie said she has met Oketch in the past but insisted that his public narrative does not reflect reality.

According to her, the claims touching on her father’s final moments amount to outright lies that should not be taken lightly.

Strong rebuke

“I have met Oketch Salah, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him. A flat-out lie that you were there at the time of my father’s death and you were not, and talking about things that did not occur, is quite dangerous and makes me question his intentions,” Winnie said.

She went further, issuing a sharp rebuke that underscored the seriousness with which she views the matter.

Winnie said the statements attributed to Oketch crossed a line and bordered on deliberate misinformation.

“He should be rushed to either Mathare or DCI with immediate effect,” she added.

Her remarks come days after Oketch Salah, an influential figure within ODM, published an emotional tribute in which he described his relationship with the late Raila Odinga.

Disputed claims

In his statement shared on X, Oketch claimed he was with Raila from the time he first fell ill until his final moments.

“I was with Baba Raila Odinga from the time he first fell ill until his final moments on earth. That is a fact,” he wrote.

Oketch also denied ever disrespecting Mama Ida Odinga or Raila’s children, saying he never intended to replace the family or rewrite history.

He maintained that he held deep and private conversations with Raila but chose not to disclose them out of respect.

Winnie, however, firmly rejected that narrative, saying her family knows exactly who was present during Raila Odinga’s last moments.

Her statement has now intensified public debate, pitting Oketch’s emotional account against the family’s categorical denial, as questions continue to swirl around truth and grief.
