National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced a team to oversee funeral arrangements for the late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

In a statement to Parliament on February 28, 2026, Wetang’ula appointed a team led by the Member for Tinderet Constituency, Julius Melly, assisted by Mugambi Rindikiri and eight other Members of Parliament.

“As we mourn the loss of a devoted legislator and a committed servant of the people, I have appointed a team led by the Member for Tinderet Constituency, Hon. Julius Melly, CBS, MP, and assisted by Hon. Mugambi Rindikiri, CBS, MP, and eight other Members, to liaise with the family to coordinate support for the family, including send-off, upon decision by the family.”

Further, he expressed profound sorrow over the untimely death of Ng’eno, who, alongside five others, lost their lives in the tragic accident.

“On behalf of the House, the Parliamentary Service Commission, and on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the late Hon. Ng’eno and the families of the other passengers whose lives we have also lost,” the Speaker said.

He revealed that  Ng’eno, who was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament, was the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works and a member of the Liaison Committee.

During his tenure, the committee played a key role in the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024, which established a framework for access to decent and affordable housing in Kenya.

The helicopter crashed near Chepkieb Primary School in a densely forested area amid heavy rainfall, which is believed to have contributed to the accident.

Videos circulating online from the scene show the aircraft engulfed in flames, with thick smoke rising above the wreckage.

Charred remains were visible inside the helicopter, partially obscured by thick bushes, while onlookers could be seen milling around the crash site.

The helicopter was an Airbus H125 with registration 5Y-DSB.
