Uhuru condemns targeted online propaganda campaign

The Office of the 4th President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, has urged Kenyans to be extra careful.

This comes amid the backdrop of what appears to be a well-orchestrated online campaign via malicious and fake news sharing, concerning various issues such as political, social, and even economic matters.

In the statement shared on X, the office via Kanze Dena stated that the circulation of such content is deliberate, misleading, and unauthorised.

In recent days, several social media posts have circulated falsely quoting the retired President on various national issues.

Some of the posts have alleged that Uhuru Kenyatta is planning to convene rallies in the Mt Kenya region to offer political direction, while others have attributed comments to him on ongoing political and economic debates.

The office has firmly distanced itself from these claims, stating that none of them reflect the views or position of H.E Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the statement, the office reminded the public that any official communication from the retired President or his office will only be shared through verified platforms.

“Any official communication from the retired President or his office will only be disseminated through our established and verified channels: Office of the 4th President or the official Jubilee Party verified platforms,” the statement read.

A call for public vigilance

The office further noted that it remains committed to ensuring accurate information is shared promptly and in a timely manner so that the public is reliably informed.

This, it said, is key to maintaining trust and avoiding unnecessary confusion fueled by misinformation online.

As the spread of fake news continues to pose challenges across digital spaces, the Office of the 4th President appealed to citizens to play their part.

“We urge all citizens to exercise vigilance, verify information before sharing, and avoid amplifying falsehoods that erode public trust. The dignity of the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya remains paramount,” the statement added.

“We reaffirm our commitment to transparency, integrity, and respect in all our engagements.”

The office emphasised that protecting the integrity of the former President’s communication is not only about safeguarding his legacy but also about promoting responsible information sharing.

Kenyans have therefore been encouraged to rely on credible and verified sources as the country navigates an increasingly complex digital information space.
