Saturday weather: Heavy rainfall expected in many parts of the country
By William Muthama, February 21, 2026The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned that rainfall is expected in many parts of the country on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
According to its daily report, rainfall will affect a total of 41 counties.
In the highlands west of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, counties expected to receive rain include: Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Trans-Nzoia, and Narok.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight and in the afternoon, while sunny intervals are expected in the morning in some places.
Eastern Highlands and Nairobi
In the highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, and Nyandarua, showers are expected over a few places.
Cloudy conditions will break into sunny intervals in the morning, with afternoon thunderstorms predicted in several locations.

In the southeastern lowlands, including Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight and in the afternoon, with some morning rains.

North and coastal counties
Along the coast, counties expected to receive rain include Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River. Partly cloudy conditions are expected tonight with a few showers, followed by sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon showers in some areas, particularly along the South Coast.
Northwestern counties of Turkana and Samburu will largely remain partly cloudy, although Samburu may see a few afternoon showers.
Northeastern counties, including Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, and Isiolo, will experience sunny intervals, with strong southeasterly winds above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected in Turkana and Marsabit.
In counties not seeing rain, sunny intervals, partly cloudy skies, and mild winds are expected. Residents should note southeasterly winds above 25 knots in Turkana and Marsabit, which may affect small aircraft and boats.
