Salasya mocks UDA aspirants over expectations of handouts at State House
By Charles Ouma, February 5, 2026Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has mocked United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirants who trooped to State House on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, expecting handouts during an event hosted by President William Ruto.
The lawmaker said in a statement on his social media accounts that the aspirants were left disappointed after their expectations failed to become a reality.
According to the MP, aspirants were made to line up like bags of charcoal with high expectations of monetary gifts.
He laughed off what he said was their predicament, presenting it as breaking news in a statement on his X account on the night of Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
“Wenye walienda na expectations za pesa breaking news wote walipangwa line kama gunia za makaa,” Salasya wrote.

This loosely translates to: “All who went with expectations of money were forced to line up like bags of charcoal.”
Expectations on the ground vs reality
According to the lawmaker, the aspirants were not only disappointed but were also set up for a clash with constituents who expect any gifts received to trickle down.
“Alafu ground itasikia ulipewa 10M will be lining at his home (supporters will assume each got 10 million and will line up at his home),” he added.
President Ruto met more than 12,000 aspirants at State House on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
He delivered a fiery speech in which he outlined what his administration has done for the country and outlined his vision while also urging the aspirants to be the party’s ambassadors and spread the same.
Notable celebrities attend event
Notable personalities and politicians eyeing the UDA party ticket attended the meeting as they prepare to battle it out for the party ticket, with those successful facing off with candidates from other parties in the 2027 general election.
Former Cabinet Secretary and Chama cha Kazi (CCK) party leader Moses Kuria and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi were among those in attendance.

Party diehard Emmanuel Kipkirui, who trekked from Baringo to Nairobi while pushing a wheelbarrow, met Ruto earlier in the day and attended the meeting.
