Raila’s spirit doesn’t reside in tear gas – Kasmuel warns Sifuna and Babu Owino

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party youth leader Kasmuel McOure has given his verdict on where the spirit of the departed party leader Raila Odinga is.

In an interview with a local TV station, Kasmuel slammed Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, claiming that they are leading their followers away from where Raila’s spirit is.

According to the political activist, the ODM faction, backing party leader Oburu Odinga, is in the right place.

He stated that the spirit of the departed leader is not in teargas that has come to characterise Linda Mwananchi events headlined by the duo.

“The spirit of Raila doesn’t reside where there is tear gas, but where there is development for Kenyans. You cannot tell us that the spirit of Baba will only reside in a place with no dignity where young men are being killed. But when roads are being dualled, that is not the spirit of Baba,” he said.

Raila’s experience with teargas

Kasmuel failed to mention who has been linked to the killing of young men, including the most recent case in Kitengela, where a 28-year-old young man was shot dead at a Linda Ground rally in Kitengela.

Notably, teargas characterised many events addressed by Raila as he faced off with several governments while fiercely championing the needs of Kenyans.

A similar trend has been noted with the Linda Mwananchi rallies, with the firebrand politicians braving teargas and blaming the chaos on rogue police officers acting on instructions from the political elite and top government officials.

Kasmuel predicts split

Kasmuel, who rose to prominence during the Gen Z protests that rocked the country in 2024 before warming up to the charms of the political elite and dumping the streets, predicted a fallout in the Linda Mwananchi outfit.

According to him, politicians allied to the outfit will either lead their followers to the United Opposition or back to the broad-based government to support Ruto’s reelection, resulting in a fallout.

He dared the duo of Sifuna and Babu Owino to resign and seek a fresh mandate if they believe that they have the support of voters, claiming that their wave will soon die down.
