Police recover car, toy pistols after chase with persons of interest linked to Ruiru robbery incident

The National Police have recovered a vehicle linked to a robbery at a shop in the Destiny area of Ruiru in Kiambu County.

In a statement on the National Police Service official X account on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the police confirmed that the vehicle was recovered following a hit-and-chase between the police and the thieves.

Police confirmed that officers from Gatong’ora Police Station busted at least five persons of interest in the early morning of Saturday, December 27, 2025, while they were in the act.

“Police officers from Gatong’ora Police Station today thwarted an attempt to break into a shop in the Destiny area of Ruiru, Kiambu County. The officers, who were on patrol in the early morning, came across five suspects attempting to break into the premises,” NPS said.

According to the police, upon spotting the officers, the suspects tried to escape in a standby vehicle, which led to the chase.

At the time, the police acted swiftly by firing at the vehicle’s rear tires, forcing it to stop when the suspects quickly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

“On spotting the police, the suspects tried to escape in a standby vehicle. A chase ensued, during which police fired at the vehicle’s rear tires, forcing it to stop. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot,” NPS added.

Meanwhile, upon stumbling at the vehicle, the officers verified that the car was stabled with fake number plates, while the officers further recovered additional counterfeit plates.

Other items recovered in the car included a toy pistol, two crowbars, six master keys, three rolls of suspected cannabis, and other assorted items.

“A search of the vehicle revealed it was fitted with false number plates. Officers also recovered additional counterfeit plates, a toy pistol, two crowbars, six master keys, three rolls of suspected cannabis, and other assorted items,” NPS stated.

Police have confirmed that the vehicle has been impounded and is in police custody as efforts to trace and arrest the five suspects continue.

“The vehicle has been impounded and is currently in police custody as efforts to trace and arrest the five suspects continue. The National Police Service has intensified efforts to curb the rise in crime often witnessed during the festive season, stepping up patrols in crime-prone areas, residential neighbourhoods, and business districts,” NPS added.

“Officers are conducting regular foot and mobile patrols, vehicle checks, and intelligence-led operations aimed at deterring criminal activity and ensuring public safety as people travel, shop, and celebrate,” NPS said.
