Law enforcement officers in Meru have arrested a police impostor who has been terrorising members of the public in Imenti North Sub-County.

In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, December 19, 2025, the DCI revealed that the person of interest was apprehended following crucial tip-offs from members of the public who alerted authorities to his activities.

Acting on the information, officers moved swiftly and intercepted and arrested him while he was in possession of a numberless motorcycle believed to have been used as a getaway bike.

Further, the DCI disclosed that a search yielded the recovery of several items commonly associated with security personnel.

“A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a military jacket, a military knee pad, a military hat, a camel bag and a dagger,” DCI detailed.

He is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Officers are processing the case ahead of his arraignment in court.

KDF Imposter

This comes a month after DCI detectives apprehended a person of interest linked to conning hopeful youths by issuing fake Kenya Defence Forces recruitment letters.

In a post on the official DCI X account on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the detectives announced that the operation carried out by Parklands detectives led to the key person of interest who has been parading himself as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier.

“Parklands detectives have arrested an impostor who has been parading himself as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier, preying on the hopes of innocent citizens and extorting money in the guise of recruitment,” DCI said.

According to the detectives, the person of interest had upgraded himself from civilian to “KDF brigadier” without ever seeing a parade square.

The detectives detailed that he has been on a money-minting spree, conning hopeful youths with fake recruitment letters to the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret.

Acting on intelligence, detectives cornered him inside his rented Kilimani apartment, where he was found fully kitted out in Kenya Air Force regalia.
